Stand-Up Level I was the first class I enrolled in for decades. What on earth makes an old dude pursue a course that by its very nature leads to fear, insecurity and discomfort just to make people laugh? Because I think there is talent that I’ve acknowledged and enjoyed but never respected. I feel like an amateur magician that has spent his life doing silly parlor tricks but never studied Harry Houdini. The only way I know to show respect to your talent is to try to make it better. Anyway, how hard could it be. I felt like I had a lifetime of stand-up behind me so how hard would it be. It was a challenge!
This week has been all about new beginnings both personally and because of the DCH Grand Opening Weekend. What a great time to be included as new traditions are built on a solid foundation. Over the past week I had the privilege of visiting our new home several times and every day it was a new adventure seeing the progress being made on the building.
Our latest intern of the week is Kaitlin Sands! I can't think of a better person to be crowned Intern of the Week for the first week of Term 2. As a veteran intern, Kaitlin really shines when it comes to mentoring new additions to our intern family. She is a kind, delightful human, and her genuine love for this community is contagious. Get to know more about Kaitlin by reading this interview we had on a rooftop patio while eating a bunch of really expensive lobsters!
Meet Heather Ehrcke! This is the final Intern of the Week victor for Term 1, and I can't think of a better person to be in the spotlight. Heather stepped into this program with the absolute best attitude, and quickly became everyone's friend. We are truly lucky to have her in our intern family. She is as fierce as she is kind, and her love for DCH is contagious. The world needs more Heather Ehrckes!
Hooray! Rick Dalby is our newest Intern of the Week! Rick is one of the hardest working humans I have ever met. He is dedicated, dependable, genuine, and gosh -- just an all-around solid dude! Don't be fooled by Rick's mysterious aura. He may seem like a man of few words, but underneath that demure smile is a prudent, opinionated (and funny!) fellow.
