This blog series features interviews taking place at the Dallas Comedy House (DCH) open mic with me and some of the funniest stand-up comedians in the area, most of whom just happen to be my best friends! Read to learn about your favorite local funny people and about the curious emotional makeup of people who like to go onstage alone every night to get laughed at. Family Guys: Brandon Davidson and Tyler Elliot
Brandon Davidson and Tyler Elliot are two names often used in tandem in the DFW comedy scene. Their stand-up stylings vary wildly. Elliot is darker and more spontaneous, a strength evidenced by his recent win in the improvised "On the Spot" stand-up show, while Davidson's strong, tight jokes and innate likeability have quickly made him one of the funniest and most reliable hosts in Texas. But what makes these Tylerites a dynamic duo is their strong comedic bond—they started performing comedy together, they carpool together, and they're two of the funniest people you'll ever meet. And on a related note, they're also two of the nicest.
These two are dads not only to their own brood of young'uns, but to the Texas Comedy scene. They foster community growth through encouragement and creating opportunities like the East Texas Comedy Festival while still delivering consistently hilarious sets. I sat down with Davidson and Elliot and tried to learn from the dudes who embody the idea that caring about something other than yourself and comedy makes you a way-better comedian. Directed and produced by the brilliant wunderkind Sean Alexander of CREWW Media.
