Welcome to Comedy Centerfold, where we feature a Dallas Comedy House performer and get to know him or her a little better by using questions that Playboy centerfolds are usually asked. Lauren Davis—writer, stand-up comedian, fan of overall shorts—is this month's Comedy Centerfold. You may recognize her as the host of our very popular series, Comedians in Bars Drinking Alcohol. Or maybe you recognize her from her charity work caring for the young and destitute of Guinea-Bissau. Either way, she's a force to be reckoned with. Many have tried to reckon with her and had their reckon kicked. Think you're up for it? Then catch her live performing the art of stand-up comedy at Bryan Street Tavern on April 29 and at the Prophet Bar on April 30. You can watch her perform in improv troupes, too, at the Dallas Comedy House. She's in Funny Scenez (May 22, June 6, June 13, June 20) and LYLAS: Girl on Girl Comedy (May 16, May 23, June 6, June 27).
Hometown? I was born in Boston, but my parents moved us to Dallas when I was three, which they claim was to protect me from developing a wicked thick accent.
Guilty Pleasures? Beer. HBO. My compulsive hoarding of Yak Baks. Doing bits instead of answering things seriously.
Ambitions? To be a working artist who makes good work in Los Angeles and is also a good person.
Best Concert? My first concert was The Who and it's all been downhill from there. I actually don't care much for live music, because you're not supposed to talk while it's happening and it often requires standing.
Favorite Book? As someone who can definitely read and is not paying a ghost writer to transcribe this for her, I love books. They better be written in English though! Lol. I like John Irving a lot and Philip Roth, and lately Simon Rich.
Favorite Movie? That Thing You Do.
Favorite TV Show? Oh man, this is like picking a favorite friend. I love them all so much in different ways. The shows that have probably influenced my taste the most are The Sopranos and 30 Rock.
Pets? I have a pet roommate that I call Andrew.
Foods I Crave? Fish, especially like sushi or sashimi, but it's too fancy of a meat for me to splurge on in good conscience. Someone buy me a dead fish!
People I Admire? Lately I find myself really looking up to people who survive on little sleep. They can get so much done! Whereas I took two naps in the course of filling this out.
Dream Role? Marquise de Merteuil in Dangerous Liasons, or Lady Macbeth or Hedda Gabler. Basically any ruthless manipulative b**** leading role in a classical play.
Favorite Song to Sing? Not much of a singer, but I love a good Gregorian chant.
Good First Date Idea? Put out!
